2020 Summer Reading

Here is your summer reading for next year!

It is broken down by levels: Advanced Honors Summer Reading is REQUIRED. You will read "Turn of the Screw" by Henry James. The novella (short novel) is only 87 pages long... but don't let that fool you! It is a complex read. Read it for free using the link below, or order a copy. Amazon has them for $6.

"Turn of the Screw" by Henry James

Overview:
A very young woman's first job: governess for two weirdly beautiful, strangely distant, oddly silent children, Miles and Flora, at a forlorn estate...An estate haunted by a beckoning evil.

Half-seen figures who glare from dark towers and dusty windows- silent, foul phantoms who, day by day, night by night, come closer, ever closer. With growing horror, the helpless governess realizes the fiendish creatures want the children, seeking to corrupt their bodies, possess their minds, own their souls...

But worse-much worse- the governess discovers that Miles and Flora have no terror of the lurking evil.

For they want the walking dead as badly as the dead want them.

May 11-15 Distance Learning

The following is optional course work for the week of May 11-15.

Hello all!

I hope everyone is doing well. I miss you all VERY much and can't wait to see you!

Below I have what you can be working on this week to keep you up to speed in English I Advanced Honors. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me.

1. Rutherford County Learning Plan:  NEW!!!
Each week we are out, RCS will post a new, weekly assignment to help you read, analyze, and apply the standards we've learned this year. Each one includes the text, questions, and a discussion/essay topic.
NEW: Each school will use the text differently! If you have questions about it, email me.

2. Guided Support for the Rutherford County Learning Plan:
Here is a Power-Point reviewing some of the basics you will need to fully understand and complete the Rutherford County Learning Plan ELA activity this week. It is meant to guide you through the lesson and better explain what to do. It is on YouTube which allows you to pause and rewind as often as needed.

3. To Kill a Mockingbird (Adv Honors only):
We have SO much left in this book! Each week, I will post a reading power point and discussion board for certain chapters of TKAM. Some weeks I will read to you, other weeks you will read independently. Every week will have a discussion board for us to collaborate together. Here is this week's power points and discussion board link. All will be here and on Teams.
Videos coming soon

4. Speeches (Adv Honors only):
Students were assigned speeches in February. The rubric and outline are on Teams for easy access (see below for how to access Teams). Students should continue working on these and submitting their writing on Teams or emailing them to me. I will provide feedback to students so they can improve their writing process. Final Speech drafts are due on Teams by May 15th.

Feel free to email me with any questions or concerns!
