ACT Prep
ACT Preparation & Support at Oakland High School
Oakland High School is committed to preparing students for success on the ACT through intentional instruction, targeted support, and multiple opportunities for practice. Our ACT preparation efforts are embedded throughout the school year and supported by experienced educators.
ACT-Aligned Instruction in Junior-Level Courses
OHS uses the Jane Ross “Higher Scores” ACT Prep curriculum within junior-level English and math courses. This curriculum is:
-
Fully aligned to Tennessee Academic Standards
-
Designed to strengthen core skills assessed on the ACT
-
Embedded into daily instruction so ACT preparation supports, rather than replaces, grade-level learning
By integrating ACT-focused strategies into required coursework, students receive consistent exposure to ACT-style questions, pacing strategies, and skill development.
OHS ACT Bootcamps
Each spring, OHS offers FREE ACT Bootcamps to provide students with focused, short-term preparation prior to testing. These bootcamps:
-
Target key content areas in English, Math, Reading, and Science
-
Emphasize test-taking strategies, timing, and confidence building
-
Allow students to practice with ACT-style questions in a supportive environment
Bootcamps are designed to help students sharpen skills and feel prepared heading into the ACT.
OHS ACT Subject-Area Experts
OHS also offers access to teachers with strong ACT expertise who provide additional support and guidance:
-
Mr. Nathan Walls – English & Reading
-
Mr. Eric Boston – Math
-
Mr. Kenneth Walker – Science
Students may reach out to these teachers for help with content questions, strategy support, or clarification on specific ACT sections.
