ACT Scores
What Is the ACT Scored Out Of?
The ACT is made up of four required sections:
- English
- Mathematics
- Reading
- Science*
Each section is scored on a scale of 1 to 36. Your composite score is the average of those four section scores, rounded to the nearest whole number.
For example:
- English: 28
- Math: 22
- Reading: 25
- Science: 23
- Composite Score = (28 + 22 + 25 + 23) ÷ 4 = 24.5, which rounds to 25
If you take the optional Writing (Essay) section, it is scored separately on a scale of 2 to 12 and does not affect your composite score.
