Welcome to Biology! I’m excited about the opportunity to get to know you, and I’m looking forward to a happy and productive school year. Please read the information below to acclimate yourself with important information for the upcoming school year!
Online Resources: My website can be accessed by going to the Oakland homepage at www.ohs.rcschools.net and then selecting Faculty and Staff. Choose the Science department tab and scroll down until you find my name and select Webpage. It is imperative that you have access to and are familiar with using resources posted to the website platform used by your instructor, as paper is very limited.
ASSESSMENTS: Weekly assessments will be given in the form of a short quiz, while a unit test will be given at the end of each unit. Benchmark assessments used to track progress will be given each quarter. Students in AH Biology I should strive for success on all assessments. Retakes will NOT be given. If a failing grade occurs on a quiz or test you will be offered the chance to correct your quiz or test and to complete an enrichment exercise. The maximum score that can be earned by completing corrections and enrichment activities will be a 70. If the student chooses not to participate in an opportunity to improve, or does not complete the assessments before the next assessment, the original score will stand.
GRADING: Overall final course grade is determined by the following:
ATTENDANCE/MAKE UP POLICY: It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to arrange for completing any make up work. If you have an excused absence, we will follow the OHS Handbook. If you will miss class for a school related pre-arranged absence, it is your responsibility to turn in work when due!
LATE WORK: Learning to budget your time and meet deadlines is a valuable job/life skill which students will need in the “real world”. Failing to turn in assignments is NOT an option. Assignments turned in after the due date will be 70% of the overall score, unless accompanied by an excused absence.
CONDUCT: Oakland students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that promotes a proper learning environment and reflects positively on themselves, their classmates, teachers, family and the community. Each student automatically becomes a citizen of our school, both receiving privileges and accepting responsibilities including:
