How to Join the IB Programme at Oakland High School

Oakland High School is proud to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme—an internationally recognized academic pathway that prepares students for college, career, and life in a global society. We offer both the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and the IB Career-related Programme (CP) for juniors and seniors.

Whether you're a current OHS student, a rising freshman, or transferring from another school, here's how to become part of the IB community at Oakland:

 

Step 1: Learn About the Programme

Before applying, we encourage students and families to explore the two IB pathways offered at OHS:

  • IB Diploma Programme (DP): A rigorous, college-preparatory track with a focus on academic depth, critical thinking, and global citizenship.
  • IB Career-related Programme (CP): A flexible, career-oriented pathway that combines IB coursework with a hands-on career and technical education (CTE) focus.

Step 3: Submit an Application

All students interested in joining the IB Programme must complete an online application. Applications are open from December 1, 2025- January 31, 2026, for the following school year. There are currently two application options- one for out-of-zone and one for in-zone students.

Step 4: Application Review & Notification

Once applications are reviewed:

  • Students will receive an acceptance letter from the IB office
  • Accepted students will receive course selection guidance and a welcome folder
  • Students entering 9th or 10th grade will be placed in IB Preparatory Courses
  • Full IB coursework (DP or CP) begins in 11th grade
