ACADEMICS

  • Congratulations to Connor Coughran for being selected as a National Merit Semifinalist.
  • Spectrum freshmen, please come to the C-Hall on Thursday, 21 September 2017, during first, third, fifth, or seventh periods
  • Senior ACT re-take is Oct. 17. All seniors are eligible to re-take the ACT. Students who meet the benchmarks will not have to take remedial courses in college. Students can also earn scholarships for higher ACT scores, so practice strategies and brush up on skills for the Oct. 17 test.
  • Tennessee offers Governor's Schools in the summer for talented students in 11 disciplines:  Agricultural Sciences, Arts, Computational Physics, Emerging Technologies, Humanities, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Integration of Biological & Statistical Sciences, International Studies, Prospective Teachers, Sciences & Engineering, and Scientific Exploration of Tennessee Heritage.  Sophomores and juniors who excel in any of these areas are encouraged to apply.  Attending Governor's School is one way to qualify for a diploma with distinction. Applications are on the OHS website .  Minimum GPA is a 3.0.  Some schools require as high as a 3.5 to qualify.  Completed applications must be returned to your counselor by Friday, October 20 for the Arts and by Friday, November 10 for all other schools.  Please adhere to these deadlines and not the postmark date printed on the applications.

  • Big Lick of the week: Jaysean Menafee   Swimmer of the Week: Emma Damron
  • There will be an ACT workshop September 27 & 28th in the Lecture Room 3:30 – 6:00 PM. Cost is $85.
  • The PSATwill be given on Wednesday, October 11, 2017.  This is the practice SAT and the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.  High-achieving, university bound sophomores and juniors are strongly encouraged to test.  Cost to test is $18.00.  Registration begins on Friday, September 1 and continues through Friday, September 22.  Make checks payable to OHS.  Pay Mrs. Lisle in the counseling office.

 

ACTIVITIES AND CLUBS

  • There is a Men of Distinction parent meeting tonight in the Main Cafeteria starting at 6:00 PM.
  • Jostens will be taking Junior Class Ring Orders during all 4 lunches in the Main Lobby on Sept. 27th
  • The SE-YA Author Reveal Event is taking place at Barnes and Noble at the Avenue on September 21st at 6:00 pm.Please join us for author meet and greets, giveaways, and fun!  If you have any questions, please ask your English teacher.  
  • Model United Nations begins Monday at 3:25 in Mr. Huffman's Room.  This club is open to anyone interested in International Relations, Current Events and Debate.  If you have any questions, please see or email Mr. Huffman.
  • Dress up days for Homecoming Week. Each day corresponds with a movie for the homecoming theme which is Lights, Camera, Action...on OHS Homecoming.

             Wed. - Inside Out Class Colors Day

            Thurs. - Disney Movie Day

            Fri. - Talladega Nights Day (nascar/country day) 

  • Are you ready to play some trivia? The OHS IB Trivia Night Fundraiser will be September 26th at 6pm in the OHS cafeteria. Form a team of up to 6 players and compete for prizes that include restaurant gift cards, a Keurig machine, iPhone/tablet accessories, and more! Entry fee is $60 per team and can be paid at the door with cash/check or online. Everyone is invited - students, teachers, friends, family, alumni and the community!

FINE ARTS

  • OHS Theatre presents “Breakfast with a Princess” Pancake Breakfast on Oct. 21st, 9:00 – 11:00 AM

 

SPORTS

  • Girls’ soccer team will play Blackman here today starting at 5:00 PM
  • Volleyball team will play Stewarts Creek here at home today starting at 5:00 PM.
  • Congrats to the Freshmen and JV football teams for their clean sweep victories over Riverdale.
  • Congrats to the Boys’ Golf Team for placing Number 1 in the District!
  • Football team will play Blackman High School this coming Friday AT Blackman. Tickets are on sale in the front office for $7.
  • Congratulations to Coach Bond, Boys’ Basketball, for being named BCAT (Basketball Coaches Association of Tennessee) 2017 Don Meyer AAABoys Basketball Coach of the Year.

 

SENIORS
